1955 Vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI Alto Sax in Original Lacquer - Serial # 63186. This is a very early vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax, serial number 63186. This horn has been locally owned and professionally played ever since it came out of the factory in 1955, and we know this because it is a true one-owner instrument, a rare find in today's saxophone market. This horn has been lovingly cared for by its only owner for its entire life, and is ready to bring joy to a new player. As you can see in the photos, the original lacquer on this alto shows excellent coverage. Though it hasn't spent its life in a closet, it was very well cared for. In fact I see just one spot of minor past dent work, near the bottom of the body tube on top of the serial number, as seen in the photos. There is no other past dent work, including no dings to the bottom bow, and the bell flare is perfect. There are also no resolders, simply amazing for a horn that hasn't been sheltered.
The original neck has the matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down or damaged. This alto was repadded not too long ago, using slightly domed metal resonators. The pads have plenty of life in them, and the sax is playing well on the recent repad. It might need some minor adjustments by your local tech, but it is in great playing shape. As you'd expect for such an early vintage VI, this alto plays with a very warm, slightly darker tone, but still has plenty of pop when you push it. The keywork is quick and fluid like butter under your fingers. Knowing that the horn hasn't had a lot of players in its life adds to the overall charm.
