Beautiful Original Lacquer First Series Balanced Action Alto Sax, Serial #21643

Beautiful Original Lacquer First Series Balanced Action Alto Sax, Serial #21643. This is a gorgeous original lacquer Balance Action alto sax, serial number 21643.

It is extremely rare to find an original lacquer first series Balanced Action and we are very fortunate that this one is also in outstanding condition. It even still has all of the original factory pads and cork work. This is a very appealing item for the collector or serious Selmer enthusiasts. The first series Balanced Actions like this one all featured an additional adjustment screw. (see picture 8) Often times we see examples of these horns with the mechanism missing so it is a nice bonus it is intact and in perfect working order.

These models also sometimes show cased a landscape centerpiece in addition to the floral engraving. The centerpiece of this saxophone shows wilderness, a lake and sailboat all being overlooked by mountains.

Balanced actions are considered to be much more spread then the later vintage Mark VI models. These horns play with a ton of personality and are very open at their core with a rich free blowing response. As Selmer saxophones went on after the Balanced Action they did become more focused over time but these early BA's were some of the most lush saxophones ever made.

This saxophone looks like it was actively played for a time but then spent the majority of its life in the case. The original lacquer is simply beautiful and this is easily one of the nicer BA altos we have seen in some time.

It does show a modest amount of speckled lacquer blemishes and typical character around the major touch points but nothing serious. The body tube, bow and bell are in pristine original condition as is the original key work and guards. There is no history of any major past repair on this sax and zero re-solders.

The bell flare, bow and bow cap are also all perfect. This saxophone includes the original neck. The neck is in outstanding condition and has never been pulled down or repaired.

Because of rare and original condition of this sax we are currently offering it as is, with the original pads. Please see the stated policies on our website for more details.
