Florida Otto Link Super Tone Master 4 Alto Sax Mouthpiece with Vintage Ligature
This is an interesting one. For sale is a vintage Florida Otto Link Super Tone Master alto saxophone mouthpiece, in a 4 facing.
This must be one of the first STMs made after the double ring, as the shank design is the same as the double ring, but it is a single ring STM (later in the run the STM would get the familiar straight shank we all know today). The tip and rails are very clean, and rhe mouthpiece in general is in excellent condition. It plays with a very forward tone - not at all subdued or stuffy like modern links can be, and actually quite alive with the right reed. I found myself settling into a kind of Jackie McLean vibe with this. I'm also including a vintage ligature from the New York tone master era, with the "Otto Link" stamp.
The lig is definitely "pre-loved" but fits snugly and holds the reed straight and flat. Nice thin plate and nice heavy screw, a big difference from the ligatures available today.The tenor Florida links usually get all the attention, but I think they're equally as unique and beautiful pieces on alto. It's rare to find a large chambered alto mouthpiece like this, and the colours available to you with such a piece are very different from most stuff on the market right now. But don't take my word for it!
