Julius Keilwerth Alto sax SX90R

This sale is for one of those instruments which is in great demand. The Keilwerth SX90R tends to be talked about in the same breath as the SA80, the Reference 54 and the Yanny. I bought this for myself, but it is too modern for me.

Serial number 123xxx places it about 2007, so I suppose its not surprising that to replace a 96 year old Buescher with something only 13 years old was a bit optimistic. If I could afford a Balanced Action, if only........ Someone obviously liked this SX90R, because it has had a good amount of use. I have tried to show in the photos the lack of lacquer in quite a lot of the usual places.

There are also a number of small scratches particularly around the bend, and the bell has a little offset at one edge. The neck has had a ding and a repair, but it doesn't seem to affect the playing of it. The case is also tatty, although it is still perfectly usable, and protects the instrument adequately.

All in all, this is not the best looker, (far from it) but if you want to upgrade to a pro instrument, and can stand behind the bass player, you'll get on just fine. If you check up on the prices being asked for this model, its not in the Selmer bracket. It seems that this one doesn't suffer from the warped tone holes that some earlier models did either. As ever, its horses for courses and this geegee isn't for me.
