VERY RARE-DRAKE CERAMIC alto sax CLASSICAL mouthpiece CLA #1209. This piece was made for me in the infancy of Aaron DRAKE's mouthpiece business around 2008. Drake approached me about designing a "new" kind of classical mouthpiece made of ceramic. He was looking for professors/players to give him feedback on his design.

He modeled the mpc after a Selmer C. 070 to allow for more air to be put through the mouthpiece. There is also a brass ring at the butt of the mpc to protect it from cracking when placed onto the saxophone neck.

Although it might seem like it is too delicate a material, it actually holds up great. I could not condone dropping it onto a hard concrete floor though. DRAKE has proven to be an incredible mouthpiece maker, and has continued to innovate the design and materials from which to make saxophone mouthpieces. This mouthpiece has a tone similar to the Selmer C & C but with more emphasis on the upper partials/overtones. One person described it more like a "Third-Stream" tone quality similar to Dan Higgin's tone on "Catch Me If You Can, " or the saxophone sound from the theme of Poirot. The piece is in excellent shape, no chips or dings in the rails, tip or anywhere. No marks on the beak, as the material is too hard to damage. Here is a youtube link about this ceramic design.
