WHAT A GREAT FIND - Good old' Made in USA. Conn NEW WONDER Alto Sax Saxophone with unique CUSTOM ART DECO ENGRAVING (you won't see this pattern ANYWHERE else)! This instrument appears to have been customized in the mid to late 1930s based upon the Deco artistic engraving style.
Safe to assume that re-lacquering was also done as a part of the process. Also - these necks typically have a Microtuner which of course is absent here. Probably the neck was modified at the same time and the customer opted for a simpler choice.
Appearance is somewhat better than you'd expect from a pro level horn that has been played FOR 95 YEARS. Wear is confined to finish rather than structural. Has escaped the typical'Whoops, dropped the horn' drama that brutalizes most of these instruments. At worst, there are a few minor dings here and there rather than crushing bends and serious dents. Cosmetic wear is within limits for the usual instrument contact points. Pads and cork are old and worn (a couple look to have mold on them as well) - I was able to play this (see description) but they really don't allow the horn to show its full potential. PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION & review pics. I play some tenor sax - not really great, mind you - and tested the horn.Got all the notes, top to bottom. If I can, you can.
Just imagine how this horn is going to SING with proper rehab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have priced the horn accordingly. Needs mouthpiece and whatever personal set-up you wish to do.
