First it needs servicing and secondly I've expected very old fashioned sound. Well, I don't have an experience in Selmers earlier than 1931 and was pleasantly surprised, the sax sounds like Selmers do, resonant, warm and still enough punch, pretty amazing. Gold lacquer Model 26's are very rare, normally they are silver or nickel plated, there might be very handful of gold versions around. The lacquer itself is a bit confusing. It's nice and dark, but some areas are lighter in tone and not great.
I'm guessing a layer of transparent lacquer was added on top of the original one and areas worn from use just appears lighter. Anyway, not the prettiest lacquer, but not too bad either.
Please don't ask me to look for every scratch or a little nick, the sax is almost a century old and for the age it's in pretty amazing condition. With some adjustments it will play, I was able to get a wonderful sound from it as it is, but ideally it would benefit from a full service. It needs a full service, I just mean that it's perfectly possible to play it as it is to get an idea what it will sound like and it does sound wonderful. Supplied in an old Buescher case. It's worn, but still is a very nice and super solid wooden case, I wouldn't worry slightest posting the Selmer in it.Refer to photos for more details.
